about

Ljubljana-based Slovenian rock duo Dejan Lapanja & Gašper Peršl presents a new song ‘Jeste li vidjeli’ which echoes progressive rock music of the 70’s era and leans towards the distorted electric guitar sound of the early rock 'n' roll records, honouring the legacy of American guitarist Link Wray.

Dejan says: “While writing this song I could physically recall the distinctive smell of old amplifiers. My guitar technician Mr. Slabšak has always said that old Fender amps smell like rotten turnips and that’s what makes them great! Another friend actually found one under a pile of coal after buying an old house and after all those years it was still in good condition!”

The idea for the project grew in Gašper’s mind during quarantine in March 2020, after a 10+ years break from their initial band Ulixes. Dejan Lapanja & Gašper Peršl are well known session musicians who collaborated with acclaimed bands or solo artists from Slovenia and abroad, such as Vlado Kreslin, Laibach, Vlatko Stefanovski, La Fanfaria del Capitan and others, touring in Europe, Asia and South America.

“At the end of the nineties before me and my colleagues parted ways and went studying abroad we were a part of a small music scene, heavily influenced by English prog rock bands such as Yes, King Crimson, The Who, Genesis and others. It seems that nowadays those rustic analog sounds are haunting us again. The title of the song was inspired by the composition ‘Jeste li vidjeli djevojčice’ (Have you seen the girls?) by a legendary former Yugoslav Frank Zappa-style band Buldožer who’s band members laid foundation of my music career,” says Dejan.
